Skip Hire in Nottingham

Nottingham City Council covers a much smaller area than the NG postcode does, so the authority licensing a skip on your road is often one of the surrounding boroughs instead. Waste Central resolves it from your postcode, files the licence, and arranges delivery through a licensed carrier covering that district.

Hiring a skip in Nottingham

The NG area spans Nottingham City plus Gedling, Broxtowe, Rushcliffe, Ashfield and parts of Newark & Sherwood — and outside the city boundary the highway authority for skip licences is Nottinghamshire County Council rather than the borough. It is a genuinely easy thing to get wrong, and getting it wrong means an application to the wrong desk and a delivery that waits. On private ground the question does not arise at all.

Inside the city, the terraced districts of NG7 and NG3 and the student areas around Lenton and Dunkirk have little or no off-street parking, so a licence is the normal case and end-of-tenancy clearances bunch into the same few weeks each summer. The suburbs beyond, through Wollaton, West Bridgford and Arnold, are mostly interwar semis with a drive that takes a 6- or 8-yard skip and needs no paperwork.

The tram network is the city-centre constraint worth naming: a container cannot stand where it would foul the route or its stops, and the streets it runs along are among the tightest for a skip lorry to work in. A grab lorry loading from the road, or a wait-and-load visit, avoids the problem by never leaving anything behind.

Putting one on the road

Who licenses a skip in Nottingham

A container standing on a public road needs a permit under the Highways Act 1980. Here that comes from Nottingham City Council inside the city, or Nottinghamshire County Council as highway authority beyond it. On a driveway or other private ground none is needed at all.

We file it for you and the council's charge is passed through at cost — itemised on your quote, before you pay, rather than added afterwards. It is the part of a skip price the rest of this trade leaves out, and it is the part that changes most from one address to the next.
