Scotland licenses skips under the Roads (Scotland) Act 1984, not the Highways Act that covers England and Wales. In practice that means a different application, a different department and a different fee from the one an English quote would assume — and a national broker quoting you an English permit for a Glasgow street is quoting the wrong thing. Which authority that is depends on the postcode rather than the city name. The G area covers Glasgow City but also reaches into East Dunbartonshire, East Renfrewshire, Renfrewshire and South Lanarkshire, and each licenses its own roads. Tenement districts across the West End, Southside and East End almost never have off-street space, so consent is part of the job; the outer suburbs more often have a drive, and a skip on private ground needs no consent at all.

Two Glasgow-specific things worth checking before you book. The city operates a low emission zone covering the centre, which constrains which vehicles can make the delivery. And tenement back courts, where the access lane is the only way in, are frequently too tight for a skip lorry — a grab lorry working from the street, or a wait-and-load visit, will often clear a back court job that a skip physically cannot reach.
