Liverpool City Council licenses skips across the city itself, but the L area also takes in Knowsley, Sefton and parts of West Lancashire, each with its own fee and notice period. Getting the authority right before quoting is what keeps the number on the screen the number on the invoice.

Access splits along the same line it does in most northern cities. The Victorian terraces of L7, L8 and L15 mostly have no off-street parking, so the skip goes on the road under licence; the interwar semis of the outer districts usually have a drive, and a skip on private ground needs no licence at all. If you have space off the road, price it that way first — it is normally both faster and cheaper.

Around the waterfront and the commercial core, loading restrictions and pedestrianised stretches often rule out leaving a container standing at all. A grab lorry works from the road and takes loose material away in the same visit, and a wait-and-load skip does the same for a job that can be cleared in an hour.
