What Devon County Council charges
| Skip permit | Devon County Council |
|---|---|
| Council's fee | £110.50 for the first 28 days, then £87 to renew |
| Licence length | 28 days |
| Notice | 10 working days |
| Read from | Council's page, 8 Aug 2026 |
The fee is the council's own and carries no VAT. It is what the council's page said on 8 Aug 2026; a council can change its fee, so its own page is the last word. "To renew" is the council's fee for extending the licence; how long each renewal lasts is on the council's own page.
What the permit adds to a booking with us
| Days on the road | Adds to your total (incl. VAT) |
|---|---|
| 7 days | £132.60 |
| 14 days | £132.60 |
| 28 days | £132.60 |
One licence covers each of these stays. They are for a booking made with enough notice. Nothing is added for arranging it: each is the council's fee as read, for those days, plus VAT. While you book, the permit line is shown before VAT, so it reads lower than the figure here.
Two things are not in these figures and are priced when you book: a charge for booking at short notice, and a parking bay suspension where the skip takes a marked bay. In some councils with controlled parking zones, the on-road price you see first assumes a bay is needed until you say it is not.
For 14 days on the road, Waste Central's permit price before VAT is between about £55 and £110 in half of the 171 councils it prices from their published fee. At £111, Devon is above that range.
Where Devon County Council issues the permit
Devon County Council is the highway authority for these districts, so it — not the district, borough or city council — issues the skip permit in East Devon, Exeter, Mid Devon, North Devon, South Hams, Teignbridge, Torridge and West Devon.
When you need one
Only when the skip stands on a public road, pavement or verge — the permit is a licence under the Highways Act 1980 — and on your own drive or land none is needed. Choose the public-road option when you book and the permit is arranged for you, as its own line in the price before you pay. Devon County Council's own page asked for 10 working days' notice when it was read (8 Aug 2026). The booking calendar marks the dates that cost more, because a permit arranged at short notice can cost more.
