The short answer

In 2026 skip hire with us costs from £366 for a 4-yard skip to £672 for a 16-yard skip, including VAT. That one price covers delivery, the hire, with no fixed period, collection and disposal. It is our guide price for a private-property (driveway) delivery with general mixed waste at a London postcode; your postcode, the waste and a road permit can change it.

What the price includes

One price, shown before you pay, covers:

  • delivery to your address on the day you choose
  • the hire, with no fixed period
  • collection, on a day you pick
  • disposal of the load at a permitted facility, and a waste transfer note recording the transfer

Two things are added only when they apply, each as its own line before you pay: a council permit, if the skip stands on a public road, and any item that has to be declared when you book (car tyre, commercial fridge, domestic fridge, double mattress, mattress, POPs upholstered furniture).

How much does a skip permit add?

Nothing, if the skip stands on your own drive or private land. A permit is needed only on a public road, and each council sets its own fee and its own notice period: fees run from under £20 to more than £250.

When you choose "on the road" while booking, the permit is arranged for you and priced as its own line before you pay. How skip permits work, and the fee for every council.

Bigger and smaller than a skip

Roll-on/roll-off containers are for sustained volume on a site. 20 Yard RoRo from £636; 40 Yard RoRo from £636, including VAT. The price covers the weight the container includes; anything heavier is billed by the tonne. See RoRo sizes and rates.

Cage vans take a light load in one visit and leave nothing behind. Half Load Cage Van from £360; Full Load Cage Van from £504, including VAT. See cage vans.

Charges that can come later

The price you pay at booking is the price of the job as booked. The terms and the waste policy name what can be charged on top, each for something that happens after you book:

ChargeWhen it appliesAmount
Wasted journeyThe lorry attends and cannot deliver or collect: no safe access, a blocked space, an overfilled skip£60 plus the return visit at cost
Late cancellationYou cancel within 24 hours of the delivery date£30
Cancellation after dispatchYou cancel once the vehicle has been dispatched£60
A permit already grantedYou cancel after the council has granted the permitThe permit fee, if the council will not refund it
A longer permitThe skip stays on the road beyond its permitThe council's fee and any charge for arranging it
Waste not as bookedThe load is not the waste type booked, or holds an item that should have been declaredRe-weighed and charged at the correct rate; a declared item at the disposal facility's charge
Weight over what a roll-on/roll-off includesThe container weighs more than its price coversThe rate per tonne for that waste

Cancelling more than 24 hours before delivery costs nothing unless a council permit has already been granted, and if you booked as a consumer you also have the statutory 14-day right to cancel, counted from the day the booking is confirmed. You are told what happened and what it will cost before anything is charged. The full terms.

How to pay less

  • Choose the size that fits the job. A skip that is too small means a second one. Compare sizes.
  • Keep it off the road if you can. A skip on your drive needs no permit.
  • Say what is going in. Declared items are priced before you pay; undeclared ones are charged when they are found.
  • Load it level. An overfilled skip cannot be carried, and a wasted journey costs £60.
  • Be ready on the day. Clear the space for the lorry.

Where these figures come from

Every price on this page is read from our own live pricing when the page loads. The guide prices are today's price for a private-property (driveway) delivery with general mixed waste at a London postcode. The charges are those in our terms. The permit range is the published fees of the UK councils we hold on file.

Questions

Asked about this.

What is the cheapest skip to hire?

The smallest. With us that is the 4-yard skip, from £366, including VAT — a guide price for a private-property (driveway) delivery with general mixed waste at a London postcode. For a light load that does not need to stand for days, a cage van can cost less than a skip, and nothing is left on the road, so there is no permit.

Is VAT included in skip hire prices?

Yes. The guide prices on this site include VAT, and the price page can switch to figures before VAT for a business that reclaims it. One line is the exception while you book: a council permit is listed before VAT, and the VAT on it is in the total.

Does the price include delivery and collection?

Yes. One price covers delivery, the hire, with no fixed period, collection and disposal. Nothing is added at checkout except a council permit, if the skip stands on a public road, and any item you declare.

Do skip prices differ by area?

They can. Haulage and disposal costs are not the same everywhere, and each council sets its own permit fee. Enter your postcode and you see the price for where you are, with any permit as its own line.

Does a skip permit cost extra?

Only when the skip stands on a public road. Councils charge from under £20 to more than £250 and set their own notice periods. On your own drive there is no permit and nothing to pay.

Can the price go up after I have booked?

Not if the job goes as booked. It can only be added to by something that happens after you book: a wasted journey (£60 plus the return visit at cost) when the lorry cannot deliver or collect, a longer permit for a skip on the road, waste that is not what was booked, or weight over what a roll-on/roll-off container includes. We tell you what it will cost before charging it.
